Benson and St David Baseball Teams Clash In Frame

Benson High School traveled to St David for a baseball game, bringing a large fan crowd. The Benson lineup, led by battery W Etz and Nye Etz, beat St David 6 to 4 as heavy grounds held up from earlier rains. Umpire was W S Gray.

State Fair News Notes Arizona harness races and entries swell

At the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix November 13 to 18 the harness races will be strong with double last year’s entries. Interest grows in auto Tri-State Races from Texas New Mexico and Arizona and boats are being tuned for the track. Farmers from Salt River Valley counties push for county prize exhibits while women’s department entries rise. Cowpunchers from Montana and Texas seek cowboy sports and cattle and sheep men request stalls. Stalls and auto exhibit spaces fill as optimism and booster fever spread statewide.

Rancher J. N. Christiansen visited the city to report an unprecedented tomato harvest in the San Pedro valley. The crop will supply Ben son Canning Factory which has contracted for the entire year’s yield. Local farmers anticipate larger plantings next season as vines flourish.

Democrats met at K of P Hall to form the Wilson-Marshall Club led by H Q Robertson and H W Etz. Telephone line sale proposed to Mountain States

The New State Telephone and Telegraph Company petitions the State Corporation Commission to dispose of its property to Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. A hearing is set in Phoenix on Monday October 16. The New State system serves Cochise county with its central office at Dragoon and D A Adams serves as president.

Sonoita Fair to Kick Off October 16 At Sonoita

The Santa Cruz County Fair at Sonoita opens October 16 with exhibit placement the first day. Judging starts Friday morning and programs run Friday and Saturday afternoons with dancing. Free camping and water provided, animals must be picketed, cats available for rent without bedding. A ten mile marathon race on Saturday features Gen. Reichel and W. J. Uncle John Lyon Returns to Benson After Adventure Abroad

John R. Lyon known as Uncle John arrives in Benson after two years away. He spent time in El Paso and a Mexico detention of eleven months with a cattlemen group captured by bandits near Casas Grandes. He was released about four months ago and now visits local businesses.
