A lost five year old, Ernest Jarvis, wandered from home near the Smelter house and was found about ten thirty at night by his father and two Mexican laborers while walking back toward Benson. The boy carried water and preferred walking to riding, ending the town wide search and returning safely to his mother.
H C Kimball returns to Willcox from Salt Lake City after weeks there to interest Salt Lake City capitalists in building a custom smelter. He says the plan is under consideration and that representatives of the concern will visit soon to study the proposition.
Board of Supervisors approves a one million dollar road bond issue to fund permanent county roads under the County Highway Commission. Engineer J F Ryan will oversee work with trunk lines from the New Mexico line at Rodeo through Douglas Tombstone and Benson to the Pima county line and a north south route through Sulphur Springs Valley from Wille x to Courtland. Douglas to Bisbee paving planned with material undecided. all roads will be graded with bridges and culverts. Election officers named for Benson and St David precincts and Curtis precinct with voting at Benson Justice of Peace and St David School. Public notice to be posted.
IT R Brandt cashier of the Tombstone bank was shot by amateur bandit Fred Koch last week. He remains in Bisbee hospital and is believed to be past the crisis. Spinal cord severed, may never use his lower limbs again. After bullet removal he will be sent to Mayo Brothers Hospital Rochester Minnesota for possible recovery.
Henry Valenzuela from tungsten claims thirteen miles southeast of town in Whetstones reports six claims near American Tungsten Co. showing hubnerite prospects. A shaft is being sunk and ore for shipment is accumulating. a crusher and jigger may be added soon to remove waste on the ground and reduce shipment costs.
The monthly Round Robin Tea at the Presbyterian Church was hosted by Mrs. H. G. Brown. A large crowd attended an evening of old-fashioned games and music, with vocal and instrumental performances. Refreshments were served as usual.
Judge Baxter of Yuma county presided in Tombstone as arguments over Judge O Connor of Santa Cruz county writ of prohibition were heard. Attorneys debated jurisdiction and constitutional issues on class legislation with Tombstone attorney O Gibson presenting as county taxpayer. Douglas lawyers contended Judge O Connor lacked jurisdiction since he sat in Pima county.
Rubber heels are being installed at Benson Saddle and Harness IShop as a new accessory option. The store promotes comfort and safety for riders by adding durable, non slip footwear suitable for equestrian use. Local shoppers are urged to visit for demonstrations and pricing.
Pupils signed the Food Pledge last week while military training shifted to a manual of arms. Classes ran seven thirty to one thirty to allow circers attendance. Six student leaders were named for YMCA war work: Edgar Titus Allan Brown Baudelio Martinez Charles Powell Jos. Scott and Raymond Mahoney. Basketball coaches plan games with nearby high schools. Principal H Q Robertson was absent on a Bisbee business trip.
A nationwide YMCA effort aims to raise 35 million dollars through the International Committee on War Work with one million pledged in the nine Southwestern states including Arizona. Arizona delegates express enthusiasm as a November 11 to 18 regional drive proceeds, backed by prominent supporters and a busy campaign season. Also an ad notes 40 acres near town with a flowing well offered for 1,000 dollars with favorable terms.

Speculation that the 340th Field Artillery will depart next. Weather turns cold with a first snow. steam heat installation progresses. clothes are limited. Athletic day sees Field Artillery win honors. weekend football games chosen to determine the regiment championship.
