Cochise County Draft Board Meets in Bisbee

The first Cochise County draft board meeting was held in Bisbee Friday evening with Sheriff H. C. Wheeler as chairman and Ray B. Krebs as secretary. Dr. C. H. Hunt also attended as a member. The board sent its minutes to Col. F. S. Breen in Phoenix as required by law.

Deputy Assessor Heads Coast Trip With Family

Deputy Assessor Walter Thomas and his wife traveled via Benson en route to the coast. Mrs. Thomas and her mother will stay in California while Mr. Thomas goes to Seattle for a visit and will join them later in California.

Prohibition Support Cited by Arizona Governor in War Speech

In the House on June 20 Charles H. Randall of California read Governor Thomas E. Campbell’s telegram urging national prohibition during wartime. Campbell argued it would curb venereal disease among troops, prevent liquor waste in industry, and boost national productive efficiency.

W. W. W. Round Up In Bisbee District

On Thursday morning a Bisbee violence round up of I. W. W. agitators sent 27 box cars of detainees to Columbus New Mexico for military authorities. They were returned to Hermanas where they remain marooned as federal and state authorities monitor the situation. Sheriff Harry Wheeler led the operation. Two men were killed during the roundup including Officer O P McRea who was shot by an I W W member. the shooter was killed by a deputy. McRea was related to N C McRea of St David and well known locally.

Farewell Dance for S. P. Signal Boys

A small farewell dance was held in the Auditorium last Wednesday night despite bad weather. About fifteen couples attended and enjoyed the event with Victrola Orchestra under W. E. Zeek directing music. Dancing ran from nine to twelve.
