John Irwin Appointed Registrar of Phoenix Land Office
The President appointed John Irwin as registrar of the Federal Land Office in Phoenix succeeding the late Thomas F. Weedin. Irwin, a Salt River Valley resident and staunch Democrat, is expected to take over around February 1 after preliminaries. Receiver John J. Birdne praised the choice as one of the best possible.

Bootleg Whiskey Ring Busted Near Town
Constable John Proffitt halted a traveling bootlegger named J. J. Spencer from Lordsburg New Mexico. Twenty two cases of whisky in a Jeffrey Six were seized and the car contents confined for disposition. Spencer posted $100 bail and was rearrested by Deputy A W Howe for trial Monday.
