Draft Standards Lowered To Increase Man Power
Washington reports mental standards for the draft will drop on October 1, adding about 20,000 eligible men per year for military service. The Pentagon also plans early in 1967 to qualify an additional 20,000 registrants who would have been deferred in the 1-Y category, which covers war time or national emergency service. This follows Defense Secretary McNamara’s August 23 plan to take in 40,000 sub-standard men by next June 30.
