Detroit API GM announced an average $56 price increase on its 1967 cars joining Ford and Chrysler in a rising price trend that could affect buyers and market competition across the auto industry.
A lightning bolt ignited a fire at a two apartment house at 140 McCall St causing about 1500 in damage. The downstairs residents were Mrs. Nellie Livingston and five children, the upstairs residents were Mrs. Harriet Harrington and three children. Firemen limited damage to roof and attic as rain and thunder raged. Fire chief Charles Sawyer cited low turnout of volunteers, possibly due to recent false alarms.
United States formally offers to end bombing of North Vietnam and withdraw forces from South Vietnam if Hanoi takes corresponding steps. Ambassador Arthur Goldberg presents three-point plan to North Vietnam, seeks de-escalation, self determination for South Vietnam, and reunification by free choice. A group of Southwestern Vermont motel owners formed the U S 7 Associates Inc to oppose Route 7 reconstruction plans. They aim to block a limited access designation, push for curves relocation and crawler lanes, and lobby for modest advertising signs. The group offices will be in Arlington and 22 incorporators from Bennington and Arlington counties support preserving Route 7 while seeking improvements.
