Bennington Hospital Leads Integrated Rehab and Rescue Services

The hospital coordinates rehab across physical, occupational, speech, and recreational therapy under Berkshire and United Counseling Service oversight. A therapeutic community model supports patient autonomy with family involvement, while ambulance rescue operations expanded from a single drive to five squads serving Bennington County and Rensselaer County. The Bennington Squad handles 1000 trips in 1970 with a $20,000 annual budget and $40,000 in equipment, funded mainly by community donations. Home care expands via a Blue Cross pilot for acute, extended, and home care, with the assistant administrator serving as home health secretary. The hospital emphasizes cooperative program development to deliver enhanced services at lower costs.
