Bethel Plant Manufactures Veneer for Vermont Pacific
Vermont Pacific Corp began producing high quality hardwood veneers at its Bethel plant after acquiring the facility from Indian Head Plywood. Idle since March, the plant has been upgraded to handle heavy veneers up to 1 1/8 inches, shipping trimmed and spliced veneer to Rochester Plywood and other buyers nationwide. About 30 locals are employed with plans to hire more as output grows. Delbert Stearns leads manufacturing, with most wood supplies sourced locally. Veneer products are marketed as Verpaco and Vermont Ware, including countertops, cutting boards, panels, and engineered laminates. The bulk goes to the Rochester plant for fabrication. Termites Prefer New Homes Claim
MEMPHIS retired Agriculture entomologist Dr. Thomas E. Snyder asserts termites favor new homes due to juicier second growth lumber and central heating. He notes infestations rise slowly and often go undetected for years until visible damage occurs. Snyder, a Bruce Terminix consultant, urges yearly inspections for homes over two years old.
