James Smith of Hinsdale told the New Hampshire Racing Commission he tried to fix races at Hinsdale Raceway on June 25 July 9 and July 30. He testified at a State House hearing amid appeals by 13 of 15 drivers suspended over alleged fixed races. Governor King ordered a full investigation into the track’s operations.

Ernest Houle, uncle of a Hinsdale Raceway youth, says the boy did not attempt suicide after racing commission questioning. He says the youth was exhausted and not mentally retarded, countering Republican candidate James Barry's charge of a merciless inquiry and a death by own action note. The youth, a Hinsdale stables worker, was treated after a suspected drug incident.

Hoosick Falls notes Jim Shoemaker pitched a two hit shutout as the Elks beat the Lions 8-0 to tie CYO for first in the Interstate League. Shoemaker fanned 12 with one walk. Key hits came from Chris Christie Greg Croft and Kevin Mears. A one game playoff with CYO is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m. in North Bennington.
John Wilkinson of Bennington fired a 31 to establish a new nine-hole record at Oakerwood Golf Course on Wednesday. The score breaks the year-old mark of 33 jointly held by Wilkinson and Craig Galipeau, also of Bennington.
