FHA Provides Loans For Farm Recreation Projects
Rutland and Bennington farmers may finance farm based recreation ventures via Farmers Home Administration credit. About 1,100 farmers have borrowed $65 million over five years with profits reported in 1966, including $1,387 average per project and $2,143 for firms older than three years. Eligible loans cover operating costs up to $35,000 and real estate up to $60,000 at 5 percent interest, with terms up to 40 years for real estate and seven for chattels. Community groups can also obtain financing for golf, pools, lakes, and similar facilities through Pratt, Rutland.

Loveless Urges Upgrading Northeast Kingdom Education Base
Vermont industrial development director Loveless told the Northeastern Vermont Development Association that the three-county region must expand its educational base to attract growth industries. He urged a business industry education committee to create an advanced adult education center and post high school programs, citing a 1967 feasibility study. He identified lumber and wood products, food products, printing and apparel as feasible sectors, but warned current labor skills and high local taxes risk future growth. The plan calls for skills training in areas like cost accounting, computer programming, industrial psychology, and supervision to support existing firms and attract electronic design and semiconductor manufacturing. Copies of the survey results were distributed to regional groups.
