The Pie Race at Mount Hermon Marks 86-Year Tradition
The Bemis Forslund Pie Race at Northfield Mount Hermon School, begun in 1891, honors endurance with apple pies for finishers under 33 minutes on a 4.5 mile course. Axel Forslund and Henry Bemis endowed prizes. the event draws faculty, staff, alumni, and students each late November. Eric Whyte, an alumnus now pursuing a medical degree, paces the story of the race and its enduring New England classroom heritage.
