Arlington Water Co Given Second Health Order To Comply
Arlington Water Co and principal Norton Barber are again notified by state Health Department official Kenneth Stone of a second health order demanding system improvements. If the Sept. 13 order is not fulfilled within one week a court action may follow. Tests show Red Mountain spring contamination from coliform bacteria, prompting a required chlorination facility. Pressure drops in East Arlington lead to a broader leak survey and a plan to pump up capacity. A boil water advisory remains in effect for residents. Laurie J. Roberts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo L. Roberts, has been elected to Phi Theta Kappa at Green Mountain College.

Falls merchants oppose annexation of shopping center land
Hoosick Falls merchants gathered at the regional services center to oppose a plan to annex 12.48 acres owned by Ralph Helft for a shopping center to be built by Hoosick Falls Realty Inc. The project would include a Grand Union store, Adams Drug, possibly Ben Franklin, two fast food outlets, and a private restaurant. The hearing explored village water and sewer impacts, financing of plant modifications, and job creation, with opposition citing risk to downtown business and village uniqueness. The planning board will study the proposal in 60 to 80 days and both boards must vote within 90 days. UNICEF drive announced for Friday afternoon by North Bennington students.
