Corcoran protests secrecy over selectmen meeting

Former Bennington selectman Timothy R. Corcoran says he will file a formal complaint with State's Attorney Raymond E. Bolton about yesterdays executive session. He says the panel discussed personnel and an evaluation of the town manager in a closed session, a topic not allowed to be kept private under the Right-to-Know law. Peace talks in Middle East stumble over U.N. signals

U.N. sources in Geneva say a December resumption of Middle East peace talks is planned for December 21. In New York Israeli Ambassador Chaim Herzog and Egyptian Ambassador Ahmed Esmat Abdel Meguid voiced no awareness of such plans during the General Assembly debate on settlements. Meguid condemned settlements as occupation while Herzog defended Israel’s rights, signaling a breakdown in peace prospects and widening gaps on PLO participation. Saudi foreign minister warned of a breakdown risking war, while the EEC refused to sever ties with Israel or recognize the PLO.

Martin to testify in Minckler murder trial

Michael J. Martin, freed in the murder case of Harry Cirelli, will be called as a state witness in Richard Minckler’s first degree murder trial. An attorney general aide said a subpoena is expected today. Martin was acquitted of murder but remains in Burlington facility. he faces armed robbery charges.
