Vermont DES Backs Tide Program Expansion
Vermont's experience with 25 disadvantaged youths in Burlington is cited as proof the federal Tide project benefits youths and could be duplicated nationwide. Commissioner Stella Hackel reported 20 of 25 enrolled either returned to school or moved to fulltime work, with a notable shift in attitude toward work. The trainees, drawn from the Youth Opportunity Center, were high school dropouts previously considered unemployable.

In Cleveland six temporary jurors we seated on day one of Dr. Samuel H. Sheppard's second murder trial. Hoff Attacks Snelling on Vermont Sales Tax Promise
Governor Hoff accuses Richard Snelling of seducing voters with a sales tax that would be "something for nothing" and would not guarantee local tax cuts. He argues towns set property taxes and outfits would decide revenue use, while a tax would hit work clothes, building materials, and farm machinery. Hoff counters with state aid figures and notes broader town impacts. A separate item notes Francis Farrow erecting a lamppost in England for his poodle Brandy as part of a road cleanliness campaign.
