Manchester Chamber Honors Unsung Heroes at Dinner
The Greater Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce and Manchester Chamber officers honored three unsung heroes at the annual dinner at the Worthy Inn. Recognized were Clara May Hemenway, town clerk of seven years, and Paul H. Bullock, a holder of multiple town offices.

Physician Addresses PTA On Results of Smoking
Dr. George J. Riley of Troy told Hoosick Falls PTA members that the second Surgeon General report on smoking is grim. He described smoking effects on heart and lung diseases, noted that current cigarette filters are ineffective, and urged addressing the issue with youngsters while warning that emphysema worsens with smoking.

Frederick H Heinel runs Heinel's, a Manchester menswear shop, a family business for 85 years. His son Frederick P has worked 32 years and Charles Gaudette 42 years. The shop began circa 1882, started by German immigrant J C Heinel as a merchant tailor. The business survived fashion changes and a fire, moving to its present location in 1898. Heinel notes a shift to synthetic fabrics but praises wool. He avoids heavy advertising, relying on word of mouth among locals. Heinel, 83, remains active, enjoys TV and stamp collecting, and plans the annual cribbage tournament with Adoniram Lodge 42, F&AM.

Hoosick Falls N Y The St Stanislaws Society Auxiliary marked its 25th anniversary with a dinner and dance at the Mechanic Street clubhouse. About 130 members and guests attended as Daski's orchestra played. Remarks paid tribute to past presidents and charter members including Regina Brodeski and Leo Albowicz.
