Hackett aims to keep Vermont budget in balance
Vermont Republican candidate Luther F. Hackett says a careful weighing of priorities and close collaboration between the incoming governor and the legislature is needed to avoid a return to tax funded deficits and ensure a balanced budget next year. He cites a projected 142 million general fund revenue and agency requests 23 million over that, but argues the state can balance without tax increases or cutting community commitments with focused program evaluation.
