Parallels Between Vietnam Era Vietnam and Thailand Today
Speaker Jerry Elmer of the American Friends Service Committee described striking parallels between Vietnam in the 1950s and 60s and Thailand today, noting anti democratic rule, rising opposition, and heavy US military and economic support. He quoted Thai officials and a Thai Army general, warned that anti-communism fuels aid, and warned US policy could escalate with direct military involvement or increased aid as insurgency grows.
