Pawtucket Teachers Ignore Back To Work Court Order
Pawtucket Rhode Island public school teachers defied a Superior Court order to return to classrooms after an all night bargaining session failed to produce a contract. A second meeting was planned to end a four day walkout affecting 11,500 students across 18 schools. The union sought a $7,300 maximum salary, up from $7,100, while city officials cited a $90,000 cost. A student disturbance occurred at Goff Junior High as tensions rose. The court injunction awaits a Wednesday hearing to decide continuation of the order.
