Vermont Yankee plant may trigger 25 percent power cut
Albert A. Cree, president of Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corp, warned that if delays push back the Atomic Energy Commission license, Vermont could face a 25 percent power reduction. The Vernon plant aims to produce 283 million kilowatts to help meet a projected 720 million kilowatts peak load, with 181 million kilowatts short without it. The company seeks state approval for licensing and recently secured PSB financing of 80 million dollars amid conservationist concerns. The Southern Vermont Conservation Society plans to announce whether it will appeal the PSB decision and, if so, present its stance Tuesday after polling.
