Washington Observers Gauge McNamara Exit From Cabinet
UPI correspondents discuss the impact of Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara leaving the Pentagon. Effects of Pound Devaluation on Americans
UPI reports that pound devaluation from 2.80 to 2.40 dollars could lower prices for imports like cars and whisky while raising U.S. interest rates and taxes. Higher UK rates prompted Fed action. US borrowing costs rise. The article warns that a future repeat devaluation could trigger global currency chaos and a 1930s mood risk.

Prime Minister Harold Wilson calls it a national crisis as 14 counties report infections and the farming population numbers in the hundreds of thousands bear the economic burden. Australian vets assist while blame shifts to imported Argentine beef as the virus spreads slowly through the countryside.
