United Press International reports 225 people killed in traffic since the holiday period began Wednesday at 6 p.m. local time. The National Safety Council projects 625 to 725 more deaths by Sunday midnight. Breakout lists 225 traffic, 16 fires, 5 planes, and 29 other deaths, totaling 275 so far.

Fighting erupts in Vietnam and Laos coalition talks
In South Vietnam the Central Highlands and Highway 4 area saw heavy fighting with 25 rockets striking Pleiku air base in a four hour attack. Twenty five people were wounded, including thirteen soldiers and eight civilians, with a government plane and two fire trucks destroyed.
