New Yorker Joseph Oakey Named Vermont Education Commissioner

Selectmen Back TOPICS Traffic Plan Despite Higher Local Cost
Bennington officials and Village Trustees endorsed a three-phase five-year TOPICS traffic improvement plan with a final cost about 250000 higher than first announced. The Flats area was dropped from the plan due to state Highway Department objections, shifting more local funding to other projects and paving the way for new dual traffic lights and widened village roadways. Local share was raised from 2 to 10 percent with Phase 1 costing 11000 and Phase 2 costing 5000, while total local costs for the initial three years run about 16000.
