AT&T seeks long distance rate increases in 1950s plan

AT&T proposed raises in some long distance rates aimed at boosting revenue by 385 million dollars yearly, about 6 percent. Increases would affect pay phones daytime direct dial calls and operator assisted calls, while direct dial at night and weekends would stay unchanged. If approved by the FCC, weekday customer dialed calls would rise about three cents per minute. weekend and night calls largely unchanged. operator services could rise 10 to 30 cents for the first three minutes and one to five cents per additional minute.
