Baskin shark washes ashore on Scituate beach as officials identify it
A 30 foot basking shark carcass washed onto Man Hill Beach in Scituate, Massachusetts. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute curator Andrew Connorth Jr. confirmed the skeleton is a basking shark, not a sea serpent, explaining its decomposed state and long neck-like appearance. Police cordoned the area as spectators damaged the carcass awaiting removal by New England Aquarium officials and a Woods Hole zoologist.
