75 former heroin addicts, mostly in their 20s, will visit Wilmington from New York City based Phoenix House for a week starting Nov. 29. Sponsored by Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce, the trip aims to show Vermont officials and residents the program’s potential and to seek a $5,000 federal planning grant to establish a local Phoenix House.

If Ford and Chrysler accept the same deal, the Big Three face about 4 billion dollars in wage costs. Strike deadline looms at Ford with talks to resume November 23. Yosemite climbers wave off rescuers
Yosemite two climbers Warren Harding and Dean Caldwell, after 22 days on El Capitan, waved off rescue efforts saying they could reach the top. Park Service delayed a safety operation as Harding claimed they could complete the climb in five days if weather held. Humble Oil charged over unsafe Gulf of Mexico wells
UPI reports the U S government charges Humble Oil and Refining Co with 150 misdemeanor offenses under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act for failing to install storm chokes on 33 offshore wells in the Gulf of Mexico between January 1967 and January 1970.
