Phoenix House rehabilitation program in New York City gains broad support
The Phoenix House system spans 14 New York City residences and one near Peekskill with over 1,000 residents. A three year report notes 148 graduates from a 24 year program, calling Phoenix Houses a major force in NYC's fight against drug abuse. Residents manage therapeutic communities guided by former addicts, with no violence or drugs tolerated. The Phoenix House Foundation, formed in 1968, finances innovations like shell bank financing to renovate deteriorating buildings for housing. Residents emphasize discipline, pride, and real parental trust to sustain recovery and personal growth.
