Turnout hits record 57.6 million in off year elections
Unofficial estimates put 57.6 million Americans voting in Congressional, state and local races, 46.5 percent of the voting age population, a record by actual numbers for an off year. Turnout rose in Tennessee, Texas, Ohio, Georgia and Florida amid close contests, while California saw fewer votes than 1966. The report cites population growth and registration levels as drivers of the high turnout.
