Intent of voter rules in Vermont ballots in presidential contest
Vermont ballots face confusion as voter intent determines counting. Secretary of State Thomas says an X for presidential electors counts as a single vote for the party indicated, though three marks are needed for a full presidential vote. With no straight-party option this year, intent will guide results and possible three-way splits.

Rebel Aaron owners sue state racing chemist over positive test
John Crawford of Bennington files a $100,000 suit in Bennington County Superior Court against Harold Sawyer head of the state racing laboratory. Crawford and son Kim were cleared by the Vermont Racing Commission, and nearly $7,000 purse money was redistributed. Sawyer denies the charges.
