Talks Set To Avert Strike At Cone Automatic
Windsor union and management plan another bargaining session to avert a strike at Cone Automatic Machine Co. Local 114 represents about 600 of 850 workers as a two year contract nears expiry. The union seeks 15 cents an hour, a one year contract, union shop, and expanded fringe benefits, while the company offers 18 cents over two years. A 1961 strike lasted two weeks. Federal mediator John O Reilly cites a great impasse in the Vermont Marble Co. dispute nearby, with nearly 700 workers striking May 1 for 35 cents, union shop, and more benefits.
