Vermont study finds elderly housing severely short in supply
The Vermont Ecumenical Council reports a statewide gap in affordable elderly housing. About 1,006 units serve low income seniors while 1,083 people remain on waiting lists. One third of those waiting are badly in need of decent housing. Plans foresee 53 new units next year. The Rev. David Robinson says more housing would help seniors stay independent and cut state spending on nursing home care.
