The Bennington Board of Civil Authority condemned the LAB decision giving Pownal a separate subdistrict and Woodford a single-member Bennington district. Bennington plans an appeal hearing in Bennington within weeks, with Deputy Secretary of State Bret Powell noting a LAB date next Tuesday. The vote followed a string of meetings over a six-seat apportionment, with Bennington and Woodford seeking three Bennington-centered subdistricts and Pownal resisting disenfranchisement.

Nixon to Defy Subpoenas Amid Impeachment Inquiry

UPI reports President Nixon will defy two House Judiciary Committee subpoenas seeking 20 ITT tapes and 46 milk producers tapes plus diary entries from 1972 and 1973. St. Clair, Nixon’s Watergate lawyer, said a written reply would come while, in Washington, Aiken urged Nixon to travel to Moscow in June to advance detente and SALT talks.

PSB to Hear Utilities Over Rate Hike Pleas in June

The Vermont Public Service Board told electric utilities to be ready to argue for back revenue they seek under the purchase power and fuel adjustment clause at a June 7 hearing. Ten major Vermont power firms filed rate requests totaling about 10 million dollars. The board may allow back payments in installments not exceeding 5 percent of monthly bills if it rules in favor. Concurrently Rutland opened a 33.6 percent permanent rate case for Central Vermont Public Service Corp, which seeks about 11.3 million dollars to cover wholesale power costs, citing Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant as a key factor. CVPSC says Yankee benefits the state.

Bennington Housing Authority Faces Budget Crunch in 1975

The Bennington Housing Authority warned it may run out of funds to operate Willowbrook and South Street senior housing projects in 1975 if federal help does not arrive.
