Governors appeal grain rate decision in New England
New England governors agreed by mail ballot to allocate 12500 in New England Regional Commission funds to underwrite a UPI report. The appeal in the U S Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington challenges an Interstate Commerce Commission ruling from February that rejected New England coalitions’ bid to force railroads to lower grain shipping rates. Deputy Agriculture Commissioner Ronald Allbee of Vermont said rates here are far higher than those in the Southeast. NERCOM has paid 75000 of the 210000 cost of ICC proceedings.
