Mini-bus wins U S grant for Bennington transit
The Bennington Regional Transit Inc. has secured a verbal $20,000 Federal Highway Administration grant to extend service for another year. W. Bradford Craig, BRTI president, cites funds for capital expenditures and operating costs while ridership rises on March route expansion through Bennington Shaftsbury and Pownal. The rural program totals about $309,000 with Rutland St Johnsbury and Randolph also funded. Craig will consult the selectmen on parking-space bans at Four Corners.

April Prices Show Persistent Inflation Across Food and Energy
Washington reports April CPI up 0.8 percent marking a fourth straight month of inflation driven by food and energy. Food prices rose 1.5 percent while energy costs increased 0.4 percent. the CPI stood at 179.6, a 6.8 percent rise year over year. Excluding food and energy, inflation was 0.6 percent. Weather disrupted fresh vegetables and onions, cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes, lifting grocery and restaurant prices.
