New Element in Suit By Towns vs Hospital
A state request to involve towns in funding hospital care for indigent elderly adds a new issue to the Bennington County suit against Putnam Memorial Hospital. The state proposes an agreement under Old Age Assistance where the hospital treats elderly aid recipients while the state covers most costs, with towns billed for 38 percent and the federal government bearing 65 percent of the remainder. Lawyers warn the towns that joining could hurt their position. a meeting is sought to discuss dates, while no payments have been made since January.
