M16 Price Probe Ordered in Defense Contract
Washington officials announce a probe into the Defense Department M16 rifle contract. The investigation follows Maine lawmakers' push after Mare Mont of Saco, Maine, lost the bid to Harrington & Richardson of Worcester, Massachusetts and General Motors Hydramatic Division of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Rep. Peter Kyros says Maremont would have built the same number of rifles for 20 million dollars less than GM and six million less than Harrington & Richardson. He will testify at the next M16 subcommittee hearing in Washington.
