Union Board Defends Budget Amid Lunch and Sports Cuts

At a special Mt. Anthony Union High School Board meeting on Tuesday night the directors warned voters at Thursday’s district meeting that a required budget cut could erase hot lunches bus transportation and all student activities including sports. They argued the 1968-69 budget was tightened as much as possible and stressed educational excellence as the board’s duty.

Kennedy Clears Indiana Primary In Tight Indiana Race

Senator Robert F Kennedy scored a clear 42 percent victory in Indiana with 311 824 votes to Branigin 31 percent and McCarthy 27 percent Nixon led Republicans with 498 104 votes. Kennedy urged change while McCarthy praised his campaign as the leaders move toward Nebraska Oregon and California contests.

Viet Cong claim Saigon victory amid heavy Da Nang fighting

UPI reports renewed rocket assaults on Da Nang and Saigon with Viet Cong leaflets claiming victory. U.S. officials say Communists suffered heavy losses and only scattered guerrilla bands remain. In Saigon fighting, refugees, pagodas, and a bridge area saw casualties among civilians and soldiers. U.S. pilots shelled targets as authorities warned of ongoing danger ahead of Paris talks. Military spokesmen noted the drive appears to be withering, with unknowns about final outcomes.

Talks Set To Start Friday In Paris Peace Talks

Trustees in Turnabout To Act on Housing Codes

Bennington Village trustees, previously opposing building and safety codes, welcomed a plan by Village President Henry Mallory to form a citizens group to select necessary codes. He cited the need for public low rent housing as a motive for renewed code enactment.

Bennington youths face drug talk from county prosecutor

In Bennington County the chief law officer told a district PTA gathering that a drug problem exists among high school students. He warned they risk felonies under Vermont's new laws if caught with marijuana or narcotics. He cited difficulty in obtaining proof for prosecutions and urged targeting suppliers, not just users, while describing campus fear and a tightening appetite for enforcement. He said current statutes impose five year minimums and up to 25 years for drug sellers to minors.
