End of Vietnam urged by New England Catholic bishops
A dozen Boston area bishops led by Boston Archbishop Humberto Medeiros call for the most rapid possible termination of the war in Vietnam. The Vermont Catholic Tribune published a pastoral letter from bishops across Maine Massachusetts New Hampshire and Vermont urging urgent steps toward a just peace. They criticized Nixon era Vietnamization for increasing aerial and tech driven warfare while reducing troops and questioned moral consequences of U.S. policy. They urge citizens to accept responsibility for government policy in Indochina and to demand moral scrutiny in democracy.
