West Germany eyes floating mark to stabilize crisis

Bennington Plans Three Day Spring Cleanup Drive

Bennington launches a three day spring cleanup starting Monday and runs through Wednesday. Town trucks will collect non trash items such as old mattresses bed springs and refrigerators but not everyday garbage. Junk cars are accepted Wednesday only. Residents should place junk by the roadside by 8 am and call 442-2626 to flag any junk vehicle.

Man Arrested Over Phony GE Checks In Pittsfield

Police in Pittsfield Massachusetts said one man was arrested for passing phony General Electric checks potentially totaling up to 25 000 dollars. The forgeries coincided with a 2 million payroll payout to GE workers. Three other men were sought by authorities.

Ailing Al Capp charged on three morals charges

Cartoonist Alfred Kaplin known as Al Capp faces three violations of state morals laws in Eau Claire Wisconsin. A 20 year old married coed accuses sodomy attempted adultery and indecent exposure from Capp during a university appearance. The warrant seeks Capp’s return to Wisconsin for trial while Capp defends himself in a hospital statement.

Gasoline engine faces extinction

In Washington, UPI reports Edward B. Uhler of Lear Motors testified before the EPA that antipollution standards have doomed the internal combustion engine and that research funds should shift to improving steam power. He claimed the gasoline engine is dead and said Lear is developing a rankin cycle steam turbine car engine with a working model possible soon.
