Ormandy Illness Forces Conductor Changes at Saratoga
Eugene Ormandy the Philadelphia Orchestra's music director will not conduct the opening Saratoga concert on Aug 4 due to potential hip surgery. William Steinberg and Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos will substitute, with Ozawa leading the Aug 20 Boston Symphony date and Ormandy also scheduled at Tanglewood. Falls board moves to seize Cuddihy property for demolition
Falls NY village board approved action to acquire title to the abandoned Cuddihy property on John Street to raze it and sell the site to cover demolition costs. A 45-signature petition urged condemnation. the attorney will seek foreclosure from the mortgage holder and negotiation with owner to transfer title in lieu of back taxes. The board also barred parking and fenced the site as a safety measure while costs are assessed.
