Vermont House passes Little Davis-Bacon Act prevailing wages bill
Organized labor in Vermont scored two wins as the House approved 85 53 a measure requiring prevailing wages on publicly funded projects and backed a bid dequalification option for state coast projects tied to labor disputes. The bills, pushed by Gov. Salmon and the fact finding panel, faced strong industry opposition and aim to ensure fair wages amid a Burlington strike.

Prison inmate Carlson escapes and recaptured in Vermont
Carlson escaped from Chittenden County Correctional Center in Burlington three times and fled a county courthouse hearing last fall. Authorities say he faces assault and bank robbery charges in Canada. Commissioner Stoneman called him another Houdini after a test escape Monday when he and another inmate overpowered a guard and scaled a wall. Recaptured minutes later at a Windsor roadblock after allegedly stealing a car near the prison. Moeykens told the hearing he would be glad to see Carlson leave and that two more would replace him.
