Death Stay Sought For Convicted Killer
SAN FRANCISCO (UPS) Lavergne’s attorney appealed to a Supreme Court justice seeking a stay of execution in the gas chamber at San Quentin scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday. If carried out, the 23-year-old Black Muslim would be the first to die there in over four years. Defense contends Lavergne was mentally unfit due to hate-filled motives in the taxi driver's murder near Imperial Beach two years ago.
