40 mile bike path at Greylock approved
NORTH ADAMS MASS approval of a proposed 40 mile bike path over largely unused roads around Mount Greylock came at a joint meeting of Adams Williamstown and North Adams conservation commissioners. The plan would cover more than 40 miles of road in three towns plus Lanesboro and Pittsfield with small sections of Routes 2 and 7 involved. City engineer Genesio A Breda said the city’s share is an estimated expense, with Williams town voters asked to fund signs and Adams voters to a simple vote of confidence for about 5000. North Adams faces a large cost to bring the road to Interstate highway standards, with hopes to reduce the estimate via local state or federal aid. The idea dates to 1968 and has resurfaced under the Hoosac River Bikeway Committee.
