Vernon opponents win mixed decision

Conservationists won a split decision as the pre hearing conference resumed on Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corportation's petition to the Atomic Energy Commission for an operating license. Samuel W. Jensch, AEC Licensing Board chair, sidetracked a 60 day delay request by the New England Coalition on Nuclear Pollution to study the safety report and decided questions should be answered before formal hearings. The coalition sought time to review the Calvert Cliffs case and Vermont Yankee questions, while the plant notes many queries are inapplicable to the $161 million reactor on the Connecticut River in Vernon.
