Bird Rescue Operation Nears End
CAPE ELIZABETH Maine a unique oil spill rescue of sea birds from last winter nears completion. Mrs Edward Jordan led a private effort that saved 75 birds from 1000 to 2000 estimated losses. Birds were housed fed warmed and later released with Audubon Society and local clubs funding most care. Sixteen Old Squaws died from oil pneumonia. Prolonged lighting and pen care disrupted the Jordans own birds’ breeding. The operation ends with a July release and a total cost around six hundred dollars. The Jordan family cares for 200 birds and pets while reflecting on hunters’ role. In London John Lennon attended a world premiere with Yoko Ono and said he did not know where Cynthia was.
