Bolton predicts broader use of videotaped trials
Bennington County State's Attorney Raymond Bolton told the Bennington Rotary Club that videotaped testimony in the State of Vermont v Moffit DUI case could set a precedent for future civil trials. He noted the Moffit process featured videotaped witness testimony, an edited tape shown to jurors, and live testimony for other parts, with the defendant convicted after the two year appeal. He predicted other states may adopt videotape use more widely than Vermont.

Tax credits and energy bills dominate House action
The House approved a tax credit of up to 2000 for the first 8000 spent on solar heating and cooling systems and a credit for electric car purchases to curb gasoline use. A 73 to 31 vote backed the car provision and 244 to 132 supported solar credits. The energy measure trimmed gasoline tax hikes, while Green Mountain Power settled for a 34 percent rate increase. Separately, Governor George Wallace’s presidential prospects were judged doubtful by Salmon, who tempered support due to ideological and health concerns. The Bennington Free Library hosts a children’s film on June 16 and programs on International Women’s Year with films on June 18.
