Ford signs money bill with education benefits and bonuses
President Ford signed a 15 billion supplemental package funding overdue education benefits for about half a million veterans and 50 dollar Social Security bonuses for 33 million recipients. The measure also provides 5 billion for unemployment programs 2 billion for military and federal worker raises and 884 million for food stamps. It funds summer jobs for 840,000 youths and extends federal programs through June 30.

Connors slain in Dorchester gangland shooting
Former New England middleweight boxing champion Edward Connors, 42, was shot several times at a Dorchester gas station booth by two men with shotguns in a gangland style killing. Connors was awaiting trial for complicity in a $500,000 armored truck robbery in Somerset on February 16, 1974. Five shell cases were found near the scene.

GMP officials overstated need for big rate hike
