Vermont predicts smaller state deficit this fiscal year
Vermont Administration Secretary Robert Wilson raised the revenue outlook at a Montpelier briefing, forecasting a budget-year deficit of about 5.5 million dollars for the year ending June 30. The figure is roughly 2 million dollars less than his earlier forecast and aligns more with the 3 to 5 million red ink range cited by House Republican Richard Snelling. Wilson credited a 6 percent uptick in personal income tax over 11 months for the revenue gains, and declined to say who forecast more accurately, noting both leaders predicted an upturn in the economy.
