Arlington water rate case drags on with unresolved design issues

After a March 1974 80 percent rate hike, Arlington Water Co. remains under a long-running temporary regime as the PSB weighs a new rate design. A January 19 hearing followed a June 1975 session, with Rep. Jane Gardner pushing for broader public input. A key question is how revenues will be collected, not the hike itself. Proposals for a flat residential charge and higher industrial rates are debated, with company opposition to costly studies and the attorney general's collaboration on a design plan. If no agreement is reached, Hearing Examiner Rexford Roberts warned he may issue the order himself.
