We Reserve the right to limit quantities. Settled into a Rocker. On the living Rex in clock As i passed it was 4 30 . It was almost like a morning Home. In the prevailing fog Giness the first Veery so a dear broke into the stillness. A song Sparrow followed so much like Wolfgang a Early greeting. A red winged Blackbird i had heard in the evening gave a a a Kon Ker Reed along the Northwest Shoreline. At this Point i was anxiously awaiting the Olive backed Scall a a a in a better than Only silence a no Luck. Anon came a Wood thrushes song a a come to me followed by then the rollicking notes of a Robin and the cheerful Call of a Black Cap Chickadee a Sweet Jenny followed in Quick succession. In the Gray Mist Over Averill Lake appeared a Golden Streak which grew until the Lake reflected its scintillating Light. The undulating Hills to the East Lay in dark Shadow in the Lake. The Bright sunlight formed a Brilliant Streak Between the reflected mountains and sky. While i had been thinking of not hearing the whip poor will and Olive backed the piercing song of a Louisiana water Thrush broke into the spell. This created a Happy moment and my recollection of my visit five years ago gave contrast to a haunting stillness that momentarily prevailed. A of the morning was quite Chilly and it gave me a temporary feeling of autumn. A Duck like quacking came from the Western Shoreline and soon a line of a Mother Grebe and her downy Brown Chicks came into View from behind the Black form of a Spruce tree that stood directly in front of where i was sitting. The Mother apparently spied Nae at that Point and she quacked audibly a warning that was hoarse and piercing to the youngsters. With my Glass i could see that her Tempo was increasing and the Little Fellows were now paddling with might and main. I managed to count seven j though later our companion mrs. Bryant counted nine when she spied them in the evening. Between the Active quacking of the Little ducklings came the trunking of a lot of Green frogs. To add to this comic scene came a red Squirrel s clock winding alarm. Apparently he had spied me As he mounted the Post of the overhanging roof. Meanwhile the cavalcade of ducklings had progressed several Yards and were just a Short Way from the great Rock that juts from the North Shore so like the prow of an upturned ship with a dark reflection in the water. It was a delightful morning scene which i watched with interest. They temporarily stopped paddling for the Mother had ducked into the water and soon reappeared with a wiggling minnow. There was a scramble for the prize but for some reason the Mother discriminated among the crowd. She reversed her course outward into the Lake where she circled for a few strokes and favored one of the ducklings. Was this a matter of deliberate Choice it was All so Domestic in procedure. A of As the Parade progressed along the Shore a least Flycatcher gave his vulgate alarm in the neighbouring mixed Woods of paper Birch and White Spruce. A White throated sparrows leisurely whistle broke into Sylvan silence. It gave me a sense of cheer in the loneliness that seemed to pervade. Eventually the grebes in single file had vanished behind the Shoreline to the East and while i was watching a purple Grackle busily wading in the shallow water coming toward the House a great splash of a Lake Trout broke into a growing Circle a few Yards from where our aluminium boat was drawn on the incline plane platform. This struck a Piscat orial note and i figured it was an Omen of Good Luck for my fishing excursion with Medie Brousseau that Friend Edith snare had planned for me. Silence still prevailed in the House. With Stout stick and Cane i ventured eastward along the Shore where the wild Blue Flag made scattered patches of Cerulean glory All along the Shoreline. After i had gathered a breakfast bouquet for our hostess i figured that it was time to Cut the Botan izing Short. With a few Indian paint brushes and Dwarf Cornel or Bunch Berry to embellish the bouquet i got Back to the House just about the time the ladies appeared from the second floor bedrooms. Hoosick Ada m. Breer 686-7275 mrs. Charles e. Breer w or. And mrs. Forrest Brymn of North Petersburg and liar Lints of Richfield Springs Vlasi the Rev. And mrs. William Campbell in Niverville last we end
