Prague reports show the Czech Central Committee unanimously supports Dubcek's liberal policies and backs his stance against Soviet pressure. Presidium weighs a Soviet invitation to meet leaders amid thousands of Soviet troops and Western reactions.
In Honolulu, South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu told President Johnson the nation is ready to shoulder an increasing share of the Vietnam War. The leaders met at the Pacific Command amid shortened summit sessions while Hanoi urged intensified resistance.
The Soviet Union proposed a summit between Dubcek and Brezhnev in Kiev or Lvov as talks to resolve rifts with the liberal Czech regime. Dubcek said he would not leave Czechoslovakia, with a party congress looming in September.

He lists five campaign priorities including redrawing the district, auditing state agencies, widening VT 9, repealing the four percent meals tax under $1, and moving state officials to four year terms.
Washington House members on Friday rejected federal registration for all guns as part of amendments to a long gun bill. The votes defeated registration for handguns and for rifles and shotguns, complicating potential Senate compromise on universal gun registration and licensing. The panel also advanced a Poff amendment mandating prison terms for felons using a gun, with 10 years for first offenses and five to 25 years for subsequent offenses.
Nigeria and the secessionist republic of Biafra agreed to immediate peace talks with Niger's President Hamani Diori as mediator. The second attempt aims to end the 13 month civil war, following a Kampala failure and an African leaders appeal for renewed negotiations.
Los Angeles records show pre trial proceedings for Sirhan Bishara Sirhan delayed two weeks to allow psychiatric and brain damage tests. Judge Schauer granted continuance to August 2 and ordered examinations by a psychologist and a neurologist in the Hall of Justice. Sirhan, a 24 year old Jordanian immigrant and Kennedy assassin suspect, appeared in a guarded courtroom, requesting sleeping pills while describing head injury claims from a prior horse accident.
